1) What is Pure Lite™?
Pure Lite™ is a natural no aftertaste high-intensity sweetener made up of 99% Rebaudioside A (RebA) extracted from the stevia plant. It is about 300 times sweeter than sugar and has zero calorie.

2) What is Stevia?
Stevia Rebaudiana Bertoni or simply Stevia is a native perennial plant originally found at the border regions of Paraguay and Brazil. It is a small green plant that contains around 10% of stevia glycosides (sweet components) in its leaves. Stevia in its natural herbal form is approximately 10 to 15 times sweeter than common table sugar.

3) What are Stevia Glycosides?
Stevia leaves contain 6 stevia glycosides or sweet components where each glycoside contains a different level of sweetness. The two main glycosides are Stevioside and Rebaudioside A (RebA). Typically, Steviosides and RebA represent 5-10% and 2-4% of the dry weight of a stevia leaf respectively. There are other related compounds including Rebaudioside C (1-2%) and Dulcocide A&C, as well as minor glycosides that are found in very small quantities in the leaf. They are less sweet and also contribute to the bitterness. A typical stevia extract that combines all 6 glycosides is around 250 sweeter than sugar and has a strong bitter menthol-like aftertaste.

4) How do Stevia, Stevioside, and Rebaudioside A (RebA) differ from one another?
Stevia is the common name for stevia sweeteners. It is also used to describe the plant. Stevioside is one of the glycosides (sweet component) found in the stevia leaf. Stevioside extract is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar but has a bitter menthol-like aftertaste which can be “tasted” in conventional stevia sweetener extracts sold on the market. RebA is also a glycoside found in the stevia leaf. RebA extract is around 300 times sweeter than sugar. RebA is the sweetest compound in the leaf and does not have an aftertaste. Conventional stevia sweeteners also contain Rebaudioside A but in minute traces. Pure Lite™ contains more than 99% RebA making it the ideal natural sweetener with no aftertaste.

5) Why is Pure Lite™ a better tasting product compared to other stevia extracts?
Pure Lite™ consists of 99% RebA, the sweetest of the glycosides in the stevia leaf with no aftertaste. Typical stevia extracts on the market contain mostly Steviosides and traces of RebA. Steviosides are also sweet however they also carry the strong bitter like aftertaste which is characteristic of this glycoside. Even though most stevia products on the market claim high purity stevia content the fact that they use high Stevioside content as opposed to RebA yield a product with strong bitter like aftertaste which cannot compare to Pure Lite™.

6) How sweet is Pure Lite™ (sweetness intensity)?
Pure Lite™ containts more than 99% RebA and is estimated to be around 300 times sweeter than table sugar (by weight). This is a rough estimate obtained by comparing the relative sweetness intensity of Pure Lite™ with a 4% sucrose solution. However, like other high-intensity sweeteners this is a variable characteristic that depends on several factors and conditions such as ingredient mix, acid/basic solution, amount of sugar used, fillers or bulk sweeteners used, etc.

7) Can I combine Pure Lite™ with fillers or bulk sweeteners?
Pure Lite™ is a high-intensity sweetener and as such is rarely sold to retail markets in pure form. Depending on the application, Pure Lite™ can be easily blended with either fillers and/or bulk sweeteners. This gives the Food & Beverage manufacturers and formulators the flexibility for instance to:

Adjust sweetness level
Modify taste
Adjust mouth feel
Balance or round out unsavoury flavour notes from other ingredients
Typical fillers and bulk sweeteners include dextrin, erythritol, inulin, lactose, maltitol maltodextrin, sorbitol and xylitol. Hundreds of preparations containing stevia sweeteners with fillers and/or bulk sweeteners are commercially available in Japan.

8) What is the calorific value of Pure Lite™?
The calorific value of Pure Lite™ is practically none.

9) Is Pure Lite™ artificial?
No, Pure Lite™ is neither artificial nor synthetically derived. It is extracted in a pure form from the leaves of the stevia plant using an environmentally friendly process. No enzymatic or chemical modification of the glycoside content occurs. Pure Lite™ is entirely natural.

10) Can Pure Lite™ replace artificial sweeteners?
Definitely Yes! Pure Lite™ offers a safe, all-natural, good tasting alternative to artificial sweeteners. Stevia sweeteners are already used in large quantities in major consuming countries like Japan, South Korea, China, and Brazil.

11) Is Pure Life™ safe for use?
Stevia sweeteners have a long history of use in South America and in Japan for the last 40 years and there are no reports of adverse effects. There have been literally hundreds of independent objective studies conducted worldwide on stevia leaves and stevia extracts and results have shown unilaterally that stevia leaves and stevia extracts are safe for human consumption.

12) What is the regulatory status of stevia extracts around the world?
Stevia has been used as a sweetener in South America for centuries. In the 1970s, the Japanese government formally approved stevia as a sweetener and flavour enhancer for food and beverage applications after many years of intensive study. Stevia is currently approved for human consumption as a food ingredient in most of Asia and South America. In the USA, Canada, Australia and in some European countries, stevia has been approved as a dietary supplement or dietary supplement ingredient.

13) In what applications can Pure Lite™ be used?
Due to its versatile properties, Pure Lite™ functions effectively as a sweetener, flavour enhancer, and taste modifier in a wide array of food, beverage, personal care, and pharmaceutical applications. Possible applications include soft drinks, fruit juices, energy drinks, alcoholic beverages, confections, chewing gums, jams, seasonings, dietary products, diabetic products, baked goods, table top sweeteners, etc.
Pure Lite™ can also be used in pharmaceutical and personal care applications including lip balms, facial creams, toothpastes, dental floss, mouthwashes, pill and tablet coatings, vitamins, etc.

14) Can Pure Lite™ be used for food processing or cooking?
Yes, Pure Lite™ can be used for food processing or cooking since it is pH stable and can withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius
(in contrast sugar starts to caramelize around 150-160 degrees Celsius)

15) Does stevia lead to tooth decay?
NO. Several studies have shown that neither Stevioside nor Rebaudioside-A is cariogenic [cavity causing]. It appears that the sweet components within the stevia plant that impart its sweetness are not fermentable and have antibacterial properties, and thus do not cause tooth cavities.

16) Is Pure Lite™ pH stable?
Yes, it is exceptionally stable with a stable pH ranging between pH 2 and 10.

17) Does Pure Lite™ dissolve in water?
Yes, Pure Lite™ is very water-soluble. It dissolves readily in water up to approximately 50% by weight at 25 degrees Celsius. This is more than adequate for most applications.

18) How is Pure Lite™ processed?
Pure Lite™ 99% RebA is extracted using a proprietary environmentally friendly process. The process does not make use of enzymes or chemical modification to extract the product.

19) Is Pure Lite™ organic?
Typically, the stevia leaves from which we extract Pure Lite™ are not certified organic. However, upon specific request organic stevia leaves could be sourced to produce an organic Pure Lite™.

20) Is Pure Lite™ Kosher?
No, we have yet to pursue the certification as a Kosher product.

21) Is Pure Lite™ made from GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) stevia leaves?
No, the stevia leaves we use have been selectively bred to increase glycoside content without alternating the plant genes.

22) Will Pure Lite™ raise the blood sugar levels of a person consuming it?
Several studies have shown that consumption of stevia does not raise blood sugar levels. Pure Lite™ can therefore be safely incorporated into the dietary plans of diabetics and people who need to watch their blood sugar levels.

23) Are there any side effects or warnings regarding the use of stevia?
After more than 40 years of intensive usage across the world, there has yet to be any negative effect reported with the use of stevia. There are no known warnings or counter indications.

24) Where is stevia consumed?
The highest consumption of stevia sweeteners is in Japan (where stevia is more than 40% of the total high-intensity sweetener market), South Korea, Taiwan, and South America. In recent years, stevia extracts as a supplement have become increasingly popular in the United States, Canada and Europe. It is estimated that over 1,000 MT of stevia extracts are produced annually.

25) Where is Stevia cultivated?
Stevia is grown commercially mainly in Asia and South America. It is estimated that China grows 80% of the world's stevia for industrial extraction.

26) What is Pure Lite™ shelf life?
If kept sealed in a dry and cool place, Pure Lite™ in a dry form will have a shelf life of more than 2 years.

27) How hygroscopic is Pure Lite™?
Pure Lite™ in powder form will absorb moisture from the air so it should be kept sealed.
